Santa Paula, Ventura County
The Union Oil Company was founded in Santa Paula in 1890, and its original headquarters on Main Street now houses the California Oil Museum. Lemon and avocado orchards fill the Santa Clara River Valley around the town, which long called itself the Citrus Capital of the World. A bronze statue downtown honors two motorcycle officers who rode ahead of the St. Francis Dam flood in 1928, warning residents.
